The Maurice Sendak Foundation Emergency Relief Fund
The Maurice Sendak Foundation Emergency Relief Fund supported children’s book illustrators and writers who had lost income opportunities due to COVID-19.
About the Award
The Maurice Sendak Emergency Relief Fund was a national grant program for children’s picture book artists and writers who had experienced financial hardship from loss of income as a direct result of the COVID-19 crisis. The program distributed unrestricted grants of up to $2,500 to children’s picture book artists and writers over the age of 21 in the United States and territories. Applicants needed to show that they had published at least one picture book in the last five years (2015-2020), or that they currently had a book under contract. MSF had initially granted $100,000 to NYFA to begin the program, and the fund grew to $119,177 thanks to additional donars.
